All codes need to be put in <> brackets.

Most have two parts "bookmarking" the text and have a / (which tells the browser it's the end) in the second, thusly...

<ul> to begin, </ul> to end.

For example, the coding for my unordered list was this:

<ul>
<li>a</li>
<li>b</li>
<li>c</li>
<li>d</li>
</ul>

Some commands like <br> and <p> are one offs, they need the second </br> or </p> part.
