Coach Road Gets It's Official Opening

It's finally here, the NADCAA family is now officially five fields strong... and potentially could get bigger if the Mayor has her way!

When it comes to opening ceremonies this one was, by allotment standard, a star studded affair filled with more than a few events.

NADCAA President Lord Clifford of Chudleigh D.L. gave a speech and planted an Apple Tree donated by Adams Apples to kick things off, hopefully the first of many fruit growing plants to take root in the new plots..

Then, up stepped Mayor Daphne Watts who gave a speech and then boosted everyone there with the news she was trying to get the piece of land behind the greenhouses for allotments as well.

Both speakers, Lord Clifford and the Lady Mayor then got the ultimate accolade, the presentation of a basket of Coach Road grown fruit and vegetables from Field Manager Jackie Morris, leading many a person to ask "Who are those two people up there with Jackie?"

The event was well supported by the members and Vice Chairman Roy Tucker made a speech thanking everyone involved in the project.

Other attendees were Councillors Mike Ryan and Mike Hocking of the Allotments Sub Committee.

Many members of the press were also there including Toby Buckland who writes for Gardeners World Magazine.

The day ended with everyone's faces in the trough with all the members getting together for a slap up barbeque to finish the day in style.
